One of the big questions that we frequently get is regarding parents rights in IEPs (Individualized Education Plans). The main thing to remember is that the school system works for you! They will frequently try to run the show, tell you what they "are going to do" etc., but you, as the parent, have the right to say "NO" to their suggestions! You also have the right to end the meeting if it is not going well, and reschedule it. You also have the right to request an "emergency PPT" if you feel that your childs plan is not being followed. If the school fails to provide you with this meeting within a reasonable time frame, you may go to the state and request mediation.
Some laws change from state to state, but many are governed federally. If you have any state specific questions, please feel free to contact me!
